This bundle is everything you need to complement your Local Roots veggies for a complete farm to table dinner. Running around the pasture in the fresh air while they live their best lives makes these chickens healthy and extra tasty! Our crisp, super fresh salad mix has a punch of flavor and our hearty handmade sourdough will make you smile with its perfect air bubbles. Finish your meal with salted chocolate chip cookies from one of Brooklyn’s most renowned bakeries.
- 1 pasture raised whole chicken, frozen (approx. 4 lbs)
- 1/4 lb all natural salad mix
- 1 loaf miche sourdough (3.3 lb loaf)
- 4 salted chocolate chip cookies
- Option to add on coconut curry, hot honey, or red pepper sauce
- Your item will be ready the week after your order is placed. If you are a Local Roots member, this item will be included in next week’s regular weekly harvest. Of course, the exact day will depend on your regular Local Roots market or delivery day. You will also receive a confirmation email specifying the date of pickup or delivery after purchase.
The Problem
If you don’t have a PhD in Poultry, it’s almost impossible to decipher the misleading labels on chicken products. Despite propaganda, conventional chicken farming is virtually unregulated, as chickens are excluded from federal animal protections that govern beef and pork industries. What does this look like? Up to 30,000 birds kept in artificially-lit sheds with little or no outdoor access. Their grain and soy-based feeds are often medicated to control parasites, promote muscle growth, and prevent diseases that arise in this environment.
