Two-thirds of the world's cocoa supply comes from West Africa, where more than 2 million children were engaged in dangerous labor in cocoa-growing regions. Some of the biggest household chocolate brands – Hershey, Mars, and Nestlé – continue to miss their deadlines to uproot child labor from their cocoa supply chains. These same chocolate giants pledged to combat deforestation, a major contributor to climate change. But the loss of tropical rainforests has sped up in these cocoa-growing regions more than anywhere else in the world.
Fine & Raw began as a small-batch chocolate maker in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They've built a radically-transparent cacao supply chain focused on quality and direct relationships with cacao farmers. This allows them to choose the highest quality beans and support farmers who are contributing to their communities in positive ways with equitable labor. Their farmers receive better than fair trade wages and with this economic help are able to continue developing their organic farming and sustainable land management practices. It’s estimated that less than 0.5% of cacao beans are organic and without real economic support this number will never change!
I just wanted to say thanks to you guys for getting everything perfect, even my add-on items! I know you're dealing with a lot and we really appreciate still having access to such amazing food even in these extraordinary circumstances. It's an island of calm and predictability in an uncertain world.
