One of our most popular dishes at the cafe is fan tuan which are sticky rice rolls. Want to know what goes inside? Watch Wen-Jay make it here.
First we lay out the purple sticky rice. We fill with croissants, instead of the original Chinese fried dough, because we’re in a very French neighborhood.
We then add cilantro, scallions, pickled veggies, the pork and the tea eggs, then roll it all together. The pork is only in our OG fan tuan, other options include veggie (filled with tofu) and bacon & egg.
Founder Wen-Jay used to eat fan tuans all the time as a kid – she would go all the way to flushing queens just to get these rice rolls.
Come try one of Wen-Jay’s favorite childhood dishes at the Local Roots Market + Café!
